How We Help

We provide mobile speech pathology services to children and adolescents who are experiencing speech, language, communication or learning difficulties.

Assessment

We can provide comprehensive assessment in the following areas:

  • Speech (clarity and sound production, fluency i.e., stuttering, voice)

  • Language (the words your child uses and how they combine and/or use words and what your child understands) including Developmental Language Disorder

  • Pragmatic language or social communication

  • Literacy (phonological and phonemic awareness, reading or decoding, spelling and writing) including Specific Learning Disorder (i.e., dyslexia and/or dysgraphia)

We undertake assessment of our clients to:

  • Understand their strengths and identify any areas of difficulty

  • Provide recommendations to inform their educational planning

  • Develop potential goals and a plan in collaboration with their caregivers/carers to support client’s learning and communication development

Every child is unique. Assessment can be conducted over one or more sessions, depending on the areas requiring investigation. Assessments typically involve:

  • A detailed case history from parents/caregivers about their child to gather information about their presenting concerns and development as well as their strengths and interests

  • Standardized tests which compare your child’s skills to peers the same age

  • Questionnaires or checklists or screeners

  • Observations of your child at school, home or kinder

  • Gathering information from other professionals who know your child such as teachers, psychologists or doctors with your permission to form a complete picture

We seek to understand what parents/caregivers hopes are for engaging with our service. We strive to ensure caregivers’ concerns and goals are addressed and agreed upon in our discussions, to foster a collaborative relationship between the family and speech pathologist.

Neurodiversity is celebrated in all forms at Read Right. We are mindful that the journey of neurodivergent children, young people and their families is unique and comes with challenges but can ultimately be empowering and enlightening. We can work with families, paediatricians and psychologists to assess the communication of children and young people to inform neurodevelopmental assessments.

Therapy or Intervention

We can help your child develop their skills the following areas:

  • The production of speech sounds (articulation) and speech clarity

  • Putting words in sentences and expressing themselves (grammar, vocabulary and story telling)

  • Understanding what others are saying and following instructions

  • Speaking fluently (stuttering)

  • Social and pragmatic language in a way that is respectful and neuro-affirming

  • Literacy (phonological and phonemic awareness, reading or decoding and spelling through systematic synthetic phonics, writing, understanding what is read)

We can work with your child’s educators to help inform adjustments and supports that your child may benefit from to learn and participate at school.
